Traditional Cypriot Wedding in Paros

Socrates and Alexia met just over 4 years ago and each year fell in love a little more.
This exceptional couple came all the way from Johannesburg, South Africa
to have their destination wedding in the beautiful island of Paros tying the knot among their families and friends.
In their own words: "In our love, there is no hate, no anger, no fighting.
We appreciate and respect each other and we wake up every morning with big smiles knowing that we are next to each other in this life.
We love to cook and we love to eat! We are the most incredible team who always support each other and help each other up when times are hard.
We like to live our lives as good, kind people who look after the people we love the most.
Truly blessed and lucky to have each other and to have such a wonderful relationship."
What a wonderful way for someone to describe their relationship.
It is no wonder their wedding photos mirrored their exceptional love and big smiles
and they were truly an inspirational couple that trusted us with their wedding photography and cinematography! (Read more below...)

The couple's preparations and their first look, took place in villa Aithra, which is located in the Petaloudes area. The valley with the butterflies is a natural treasure in Paros known to few. Surrounded by dense vegetation of cypresses, plane trees, wrapped with ivy, laurels, wild trees and other fruit trees and a spring of water. Tree trunks filled by butterflies that stand out thanks to their splendid colors, appear from the end of May until the end of July, disappearing in August to reappear again in September. In this wonderful place is villa Aithra, dominant and outstanding, made of stone and overlooking the sea and Antiparos!

If everything described so far doesn't sound like a fairy tale already, the Panagia Ekatontapiliani church, where the wedding ceremony took place is a fairy tale by itself! It's one of the oldest and most well-preserved christian churches and its magnificence is so original and fit to such a romantic wedding like Socrates's and Alexia's!

Wedding customs are a significant wealth of Cypriot tradition, causing emotional feelings and joy to the friends and families of the soon-to-be married couples. The most important customs that are kept up to this day are the traditional accessorizing of the groom and the bride, the zosimo, the kapnisma, the dance of the clothes, the groom's shaving and, finally, the preparation of the reci. These customs are always accompanied by traditional musical instruments like the violin and the lute, with specific songs pertaining to each custom separately.
After capturing everything, the couple photography that followed the ceremony, stole are hearts with the beauty of the narrow picturesque streets in Parikia / Naousa! Family and friends were waiting the newly weds in villa Aithra's courtyard, where the wedding reception took place. A party to be remembered, filled by smiles, colors, music, dancing and lots and lots of love!
